1. Overview

IEP Goal Writer is a tool that helps special education professionals generate IEP goals, PLAAFP statements, and progress notes using AI. We take privacy seriously, especially given the sensitive nature of student-related data.

2. What Data We Collect

Text you enter: The text you paste into the input fields (assessment notes, goals, student data) is sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to generate the output. We do not require you to enter any student names or personally identifiable information (PII) — our placeholders explicitly say "No student name needed."

Usage data: We store a usage counter in your browser's localStorage to track the number of free generations used per month. This data stays on your device and is never sent to our servers.

Generation history: Results you generate are saved locally in your browser's localStorage for your convenience. This data is never transmitted to our servers.

License keys: If you purchase a Pro plan, your license key is stored in localStorage on your device and verified against our database. We do not store additional personal data beyond what is necessary for license verification.

3. Student Privacy & FERPA

This tool is designed for de-identified drafting only. Do not enter student names, dates of birth, student ID numbers, school names, or any other details that could identify a student.

  • Use generic references like "the student," "Student A," or descriptions of skills/performance levels only.
  • Input text is sent to DeepSeek's API for processing. DeepSeek's data retention policies apply.
  • We do not hold a data sharing agreement under FERPA or a BAA under HIPAA. Do not submit any personally identifiable student information.
  • District staff: consult your data privacy officer before using any third-party AI tool with student records.

4. AI Provider

Text you submit is processed by DeepSeek(deepseek.com) via their API. DeepSeek's privacy policy applies to data sent through their API. We recommend reviewing DeepSeek's data usage terms before submitting sensitive information.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to store:
  • Usage counter (number of free generations used)
  • Generation history (your recent results)
  • Theme preference (dark/light mode)
  • License key (if you purchased Pro)

You can clear this data at any time via your browser's developer tools → Application → Local Storage.

6. Payments

Payments are processed by Creem. We do not store your payment card details. Creem's privacy policy applies to payment data. After a successful purchase, Creem notifies us via webhook so we can generate your license key.

7. Data Retention

We do not operate a database of user-submitted content. Input data flows through DeepSeek's API and is subject to their retention policies. License key records are retained for as long as your subscription is active.

8. Your Rights

You may contact us at any time to request deletion of your license key record or any other data we hold. Since usage history and generation history are stored locally on your device, you can delete them directly from your browser.
